You can still use free linux tools without needing to install them on your computer. Just run directly off a cdDownload system rescue CD
Burn the image to a CD ROM
Insert CDRom and reboot your computerYou are now running a version of linux designed for system repair. It has not mounted or touched your hard drive in any way which makes it perfect for fixing corrupt partitions, or finding lost data.

For windows users:<br

1) The partition table is contained in the 64 bytes starting at byte 446 of the MBR.
2) An advantage of sfdisk over dd is that sfdisk can handle logical partitons.

@Non_E<br

because after you showed us a simple way of storing, what is the simple way for restoring a damaged HD or file-system. it seems to me complicate procedure e.g. booting the PC using a bootable cd (LiveCD?), logging in using root password? entering a certain recovering mode?, mounting disk? mounting floppy (carrying the part.-table in a file)? running command for recovering the partition table? ...Storing can not stand alone, the other must-have half is restoring
could you elaborate more?
many thnx in advance

thnx for your lovely n valuable writings,

could you pls refer in details about using the part.-table info. (just printed text or stored in a file) for restoring a damaged HD/file-system etc.<br

I like the sfdisk method because its dump is in a readable form and you can easily use that info to recreate the partitions manually if needed.

You should use whatever method you personally like.<br
