One further problem I noticed with the console to domUs is that they don’t like at all to be shared.
It may work for a bit but leave you with a hanging console when you start a command that quickly produces a lot of output.

So if you have an “xm console ” running (e.g. in a dangling ssh connection) , make sure you disconnect it before attaching from another connection to the same vm’s console.

xenscreen is also a culprit to look out for, as it attaches automatically to every vm that you start and doesn’t show up in dom0 as a “xenconsole” process!

Instead of this, you can also mount your existing domU partitions and modify /etc/inittab changing line

1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1

1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 hvc0

New domU hosts created by xen-tools will have inittab modified automaticaly
